Carriage driving at Escrick

Escrick is a large girls school with big grounds and comfortable twin rooms. I really liked the food-especially the lasagne.  The swimming pool was nice and warm.  Everyone was very friendly.  There was Faith and Jenny from Kendal+Janice (my carer who’s horse was mad!) and Sue and Susan.

We learned how to drive a carriage. It was easier than riding because we had a fixed seat to sit on-not a moving horse.  Pulling on the reins just like with horse riding –told the horse when to change direction.  We started walking slowly and gradually built up to a trot.  We didn’t have to do any horse care.

A
s well as carriage driving we watched a farrier (Geoff) shoe the horses. He kept the horses calm by talking to them and reassuring them.  It was very exciting and interesting.   Jenna clipped the horses and did a very good job. On Weds we watched dancing dogs - terriers, collies and whippets all dancing on their back feet and picking up teddies.

The owners of the horses had a greyhound called Poppy that was very very friendly and a cat called Sweep that used to jump on your knee to say hello.

In the evening we played snakes and ladders which was very funny – especially when someone slid down a snake.  Everyone laughed at them.

One day we went to York to look around and shop.

What was the best thing of the stay?
EVERYTHING!!!

Thank you to everyone who made my stay at Escrick possible.  I loved it.
